It was in the the Straights of Magellan when the crew of the brigantine Kerouac collected ice from the remains of a glacier in the Antarctic. They chipped some ice, took slivers and mixed them with grog. A gale blew up and O’Henry saved the day by lashing the keg of iced grog to the mast. This was the 1st cocktail.
